FAQ

Questions about GALEAS Bladder

Answers about the test, the process, your results and the NHS.

About the test

Does the test hurt?

No. It only needs a urine sample, collected at home.

Is it a genetic test for inherited risk?

No. It looks for DNA changes in cells shed by a tumour, not for genes you were born with.

Who makes the test?

GALEAS Bladder is made by Nonacus, a UK company, and was developed with the University of Birmingham. It is UKCA marked.

Can I use it as a routine screening test?

It has been validated in people with blood in the urine. It is not validated for screening people without symptoms.

The process

How much does it cost?

£849. This includes a consultation with a Northwest Health doctor, the GALEAS Bladder test, shipping, and a follow-up to explain your result and agree next steps.

How do I book?

Use the Book button on any page. It takes you to our secure Northwest Health booking system.

Do I need to visit the clinic?

Much of the service can be completed from home. We are based in Bamber Bridge, Preston, if you would like to see us in person.

Who sees my result?

A Northwest Health doctor reviews your result. With your consent we can share it with your GP or a specialist.

Results and next steps

Will I still need a cystoscopy?

Possibly. A positive result needs confirming, usually by cystoscopy. After a negative result your doctor will consider your symptoms and risk factors before deciding whether more tests are needed.

If my result is negative, can I cancel my NHS appointment?

No. Keep any NHS appointment you have been given and discuss the result with your GP or specialist.

Does the test check my kidneys?

No. It looks for bladder cancer only. Other causes of blood in the urine need separate assessment.

The NHS

Is it available on the NHS?

Some NHS trusts are adopting GALEAS Bladder in their haematuria pathways, with wider rollout planned. Availability depends on where you live. Our service is a private option.
