About the test

What GALEAS Bladder looks for

Bladder tumours shed cells into urine, and those cells carry DNA with tell-tale mutations. GALEAS Bladder uses next-generation sequencing to search for more than 450 known mutations across 23 genes linked to bladder cancer.

The test is made by Nonacus, developed with researchers at the University of Birmingham, and is UKCA marked for triage of people with blood in the urine.

The usual way to look inside the bladder is flexible cystoscopy, where a thin camera is passed through the urethra. In NHS studies GALEAS Bladder performed comparably at detecting bladder cancer, and NHS trusts are now adopting it.

Why people choose it

A first answer without a hospital visit

Blood in the urine is worrying, and waiting for tests can be hard. GALEAS Bladder lets you give a sample in private at home and get a doctor-reviewed result.

Most people who are investigated for blood in the urine do not have bladder cancer. When the result is negative, it is strongly reassuring. When it is positive, we help you move quickly to the next step.

Everything you need before booking

See your GP promptly if you have seen blood in your urine

Visible blood in the urine needs medical assessment. This test supports that process and is not a substitute for it. If you pass blood clots, cannot pass urine, or feel very unwell, seek urgent care.
